WITH spots in the 2019 IPL finals assured, the Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals will battle it out at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday night with a home final and a place at the top of the table on the line.
The two teams, both at 8-4 after 12 games, will give us a look at a potential Grand Final match.
Delhi is the form team in the competition, on top of the ladder after winning three games in a row, while after a strong start to the season, Chennai has faltered in the last fortnight, losing three of its last four.
The interesting factor within the two campaigns is that neither team boasts some of the international super stars that are littered throughout the Indian Premier League.
The Super Kings have relied heavily on an ageing, experienced core of MS Dhoni, Shane Watson, Dwayne Bravo and Faf du Plessis to get the job done, while the Delhi Capitals have wildly exceeded expectations with a patched-together ‘money ball’ squad that has been expertly led by captain Shreyas Iyer and Colin Ingram.
With plenty on the line, let’s take a look at where the value lies for punters in the batting department and pick a winner.
MS Dhoni @ +450
The veteran Indian super star has been in terrific form during the 2019 campaign, delivering at almost every single occasion that his side has required him to save the day.
Dhoni has batted down the order for much of the series, but that hasn’t stopped him from notching three half centuries and another handful of important unbeaten knocks to close crucial Super Kings’ innings.
We expect Chennai to struggle with the Delhi opening bowlers, paving the way for Dhoni to come to the rescue yet again at some very handy odds.
Prithvi Shaw @ +320
The 19-year-old Indian wiz kid has had an indifferent 2019 IPL season with some big innings intermixed with some disappointing outings.
After a stretch of getting starts without converting his hard work into bulk runs, we think the Delhi opener will cash in against Chennai and focus on taking some hot form into finals.
Delhi to win: +122 at Bovada
They may not be favoured with the bookies, but we’re backing in Delhi to continue its hot form and beat the Super Kings in match 50, on the back of a disciplined bowling performance and a big performance from their top order.
