Gather Round in the AFL continues on Saturday afternoon with a thrilling clash between two undefeated sides as Fremantle face Carlton at Adelaide Oval.
It wasn’t pretty, but the Dockers got the job done on Good Friday as they beat the Adelaide Crows by 35 points. Keeping their opposition to just four goals, experienced defensive pair Alex Pearce and Luke Ryan starred, while the Freo midfield continued its excellent start to the season.
The Dockers have faced three sides with a combined record of 0-9, suggesting that their upcoming clash will be their toughest test yet. There aren’t expected to be many changes to the Dockers side, with Karl Worner the most likely to return after serving the concussion protocol period.
The Carlton Blues were also successful on Good Friday, but in much more convincing fashion, as they thrashed North Melbourne by 56 points. Kicking the highest score of the AFL season so far, the Blues key forward pair of Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow had an excellent day with nine goals between them.
Captain Jacob Weitering returned for the Blues in round three, and his presence seems to have made an enormous difference to their backline. Luckless defender Caleb Marchbank will be out this week due to concussion, with Lewis Young the likely inclusion.
Entering as slight favourites, the Blues have won six of the past seven meetings between the sides. They are the much more experienced team and the star power in their forward line is going to test the Fremantle defence. While the Dockers will look to lock the game down and turn it into an arm wrestle, Carlton should be good enough to win by 1-39 points at +120 with top AFL betting sites.
With an extensive injury list in defence, Fremantle’s key-position depth has been tested so far. While Alex Pearce is expected to take Harry McKay, third-gamer Josh Draper is expected to cover two-time Coleman Medal winner Charlie Curnow. Expect Curnow to show his class by kicking three or more goals at +105 with Bovada.
Rebounding defender Jordan Clark has been a major part of Fremantle’s early success. Averaging 26 disposals per match, Clark is a key part of the Dockers uncontested kicking game and also takes some kick-ins. With the ball expected to spend plenty of time in Freo’s backline, get on Clark to continue his hot start to the season with 25 or more disposals at +115 with online bookmakers.
