Midwest Region futures odds & betting analysis 2019 NCAA March Madness
Virginia has the best odds to win the South Region, but they made history last season becoming the first #1 seed to lose in the first round. Punters get ready, as March Madness is here and there are tons of wagers to be made in the frantic last couple weeks of college hoops.
North Carolina has the best odds to win the Midwest Region, where three of the top four seeds are Giants in college hoops in UNC, Kentucky, and Kansas.

UNC is the top seed and they are the third highest scoring team in the nation. The Tar Heels lost to Duke in the ACC Tournament semifinals, which snapped their eight-game win streak. Cameron Johnson and Coby White are each averaging over 16 ppg and Luke May is averaging a double-double on the season (14.7 ppg 10.5 rpg). They are 7-4 facing top 25 teams this season and they may have a dream Sweet 16 matchup facing Kansas.
Kentucky – +250
Kentucky is the second seed and they did not win the SEC regular season title and lost to Tennessee in the conference tournament semis. Still, the Wildcats are solid on both ends of the floor and they have four players averaging in double figures led by PJ Washington (14.8 ppg). They are without a major star, for a change, and have one of the easier roads to the regional final.
Houston – +450
Houston has one of the best defenses in the nation ranking eighth in points allowed, but they lost to Cincinnati in the finals of the AAC Tournament. Their biggest win came against an 18th ranked Oregon team and only have two players in Corey Davis Jr. (16.7 ppg) and Armoni Brooks (13.6 ppg) that are averaging over nine points per game.
Kansas had their 14-season Big 12 title streak end on the season and they lost to Iowa State in the conference tournament. The Jayhawks are legit on both sides of the floor and while they have a double-double machine in Dedric Lawson (19.1 ppg 10.3 rpg) they are without star power and the team will miss Lagerald Vick (14.1 ppg), who is out for the season due to personal issues.
Iowa State – +1000
Can Iowa State topple the big boys in the Midwest Region? The Cyclones won the Big 12 Tournament after losing their last three games on the regular season and Marial Shayok (18.6 ppg) leads a balanced team that is streaky, but did beat Kansas twice this season.
Auburn – +1200
Auburn is flying under the radar as the region’s fifth seed, but they are one of the hotter teams in the nation winning eight in a row and winning the SEC Tournament. Bryce Brown and Jared Harper are each averaging over 15 ppg and the Tigers are a team that nobody wants to face since they are hot at the right time.
Wofford – +1500
Really, Wofford at +1500? The smaller school team from the Southern Conference is THE hottest team entering the Big Dance riding an 18-game winning streak. The Terriers have a great offense and defense and Fletcher Magee (20.5 ppg) leads three players that are averaging over 13 ppg. However, while all four losses suffered by Wofford this season came teams in the NCAA Tournament two of them are in their bracket in Kansas and UNC.
Who are the Midwest dark horses?
Have to put Wofford in the dark horse category and while they are legit they likely have to beat Kentucky in the second round. Washington (+5000) won the, pretty weak, Pac 12 this season, but either them or Utah State (+2000) will likely have to face North Carolina in the second round. Utah State comes into the tournament on a 10-game win streak.
