These teams have split the two games facing each other this season, both in Dallas. The Mavericks have covered the spread in six of their last seven games facing the Blazers in Portland.
The Mavericks played good defense in the loss to the Clippers, holding them to a field goal percentage of 37.1%. However, Dallas only shot 42.9% from the floor, had nine fewer points from the free-throw line, and were outscored on the fast break 18-6. Luka Doncic went for 36 points with 10 rebounds and nine assists, but no other Mavs player had more than 13 points.
Doncic (29.1 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 9 apg) had 35 points and buried eight of his 12 three-pointers in the recent win over Portland. Kristaps Porzingis (17 ppg, 9.4 rpg) is the second-leading scorer for Dallas and came back after missing 10 games to play against the Clippers. While he had nine rebounds in that game, he only had 10 points on 23.5% shooting.
Dallas’ power forward Dwight Powell (9.4 ppg, 5.7 rpg) suffered an apparent Achilles tear in the loss to the Clippers and is likely out for the season.
Lillard was unstoppable in Portland’s 129-124 win over the Warriors, hitting a career-high 11 three-pointers in his second 60-point game of the season. Hassan Whiteside, who had 17 points and 21 rebounds against GSW, has now recorded at least 17 points and 18 rebounds in three of his last four games, including the recent loss to Dallas.
Portland’s second-leading scorer in C.J. McCollum (21.5 ppg) was injured against the Mavs last week and has not played in the last two games. He is listed as day-to-day, with Anfernee Simons (9.4 ppg) on standby.
On the season the Mavericks are 14-5 on the road and the Trail Blazers are 10-10 at home.
Dallas Mavericks -1 at -111.11 with Bovada
The Blazers are 0-6 ATS in their last six home games and that trend will continue in this game. They have lost their last two games facing a team with a winning record, including losing to the Mavericks, and they won in overtime in their last game against a Warriors team that is tied for the fewest wins in the league. While Lillard will get his points, Dallas will win and cover.
