SC Freiburg hosts Beyer Leverkusen on Sunday in a matchup between two of the top five teams in the Bundesliga standings. That matchup and the Hoffenheim vs Monchengladbach and Hertha Berlin vs Borussia Dortmund games are featured in our best bets for Bundesliga Matchweek 17.
Hoffenheim vs Borussia Monchengladbach
Hoffenheim (8-3-5) extended its unbeaten streak to five games but failed to pick up a win in Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw on the road against Bayer Leverkusen. The loss snapped a four-game win streak for Hoffenheim, who have climbed up to the fourth spot on the Bundesliga table thanks to a 4-1-0 record over their last five games after going 3-1-5 over their previous nine games.

Borussia Monchengladbach (5-3-8), meanwhile, is going in the opposite direction with losses in each of its last four matches. The club’s defense and goaltending have been lit up for 4.25 goals per game over this losing streak. Hoffenheim as a +110 favorite at home is enticing, but the OVER 3 goals looks even better. These two clubs have both played a bunch of high-scoring games of late and should find themselves in another wide-open match this Saturday.
Hertha Berlin vs Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund (11-1-4) defeated Greuther Furth 3-0 on Wednesday to improve to 7-1-2 over its last 10 games. Hertha Berlin (5-3-8) got crushed by Mainz 4-0 on Tuesday and is now just 1-3-3 over its last seven matches. The team’s only win over that stretch came at home against lowly Arminia Bielefeld.
It’s difficult to build a case for Hertha Berlin in this one. The home club’s current form is underwhelming, and Borussia Dortmund is a perfect 5-0-0 in its last five games against Hertha. Both of last season’s wins came by multiple goals. While Dortmund hasn’t been as strong on the road this season as it has been at home, this still looks to be a very favorable spot for them.
SC Freiburg vs Beyer Leverkusen
SC Freiburg (7-5-4) played to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday against Union Berlin, falling to 1-1-4 over its last six matches since opening the season with a 6-4-0 undefeated run. Freiburg’s one win during the club’s recent slump was an outstanding 6-0 victory on the road over Monchengladbach, but the momentum of that win didn’t carry over as Freiburg lost its next game 2-1 at home against Hoffenheim.

Bayer Leverkusen (8-4-4) has gone 0-1-1 over its last two games after going 3-0-0 over its previous three. With the exception of that outburst of offense against Monchengladbach, Freiburg hasn’t shown much on offense lately while Leverkusen’s offense has been red hot with Patrik Schick scoring eight goals in the club’s last three games. Look for Schick to be the deciding factor in a road win for Bayer Leverkusen this Sunday.
