Former UFC fighter Mike Perry will make his Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship debut this Saturday at BKFC: Knucklemania 2. Perry will fight in the main event against Julian Lane on a card that will also feature two championship fights in Luis Palomino vs Martin Brown and Brittain Hart vs Christine Ferea. Here’s a look at what should be an exciting bare-knuckle event this Saturday in Hollywood, Florida.
Mike Perry went 14-8 in mixed martial arts including a 7-8 record in the UFC. Perry eventually fizzled out of the promotion with a 3-7 record over his last 10 fights, but he was known for two things during his time in the UFC; controversy and power. He consistently made headlines for his escapades in and out of the octagon and earned 11 of his 14 professional MMA wins by way of knockout.
The BKFC is hoping Perry’s antics will grab attention for the promotion and make him a star. They’ve set him up with a very winnable debut fight against Julian Lane, who is 2-4 in BKFC competition with no knockout wins and two knockout losses. Look for Perry to use his powerful punches to earn a knockout in his bare-knuckle boxing debut, assuming he doesn’t do something to get himself disqualified first.
Luis Palomino went 26-17 across an MMA career that lasted from 2006 through 2019, but he has found new life with a dominant run in the BKFC. Palomino is a perfect 5-0 with the promotion, winning the BKFC Lightweight Championship (formerly the Super Welterweight Championship) with a knockout win over Isaac Vallie-Flagg at BKFC 11 and defending it successfully three times since then.
Martin Brown transitioned into bare-knuckle boxing after a successful 14-5-0 record in mixed martial arts and is off to a strong start with a 3-0-0 record in his new sport with two knockout wins. Brown’s BKFC debut came in the first KnuckleMania with a knockout win over Zach Zane. This should be the best fight on the card and is about as evenly-matched as they come between two talented and undefeated bare-knuckle boxers. We’ll give the slight edge to Palomino due to his experience in championship fights, but this should be a good one.
Chad Mendes was 16-1 in professional MMA bouts including a 7-1 start to his UFC career before eventually going 2-4 over his last six fights with the UFC. Those losses all came against huge names however in Jose Aldo, Conor McGregor, Frankie Edgar and Alexander Volkanovski. Mendes is a well-respected name in the fight game, and he’ll be making his bare-knuckle boxing debut on Saturday against Joshuah Alvarez. Alvarez is 1-1 in bare-knuckle boxing with an 0-1 record in the BKFC after losing in his debut in November to Arthur Walcott-Ceesay. Six of Mendes’s last seven wins with the UFC came by knockout; he should do well here.
Christine Ferea has been a force in the BKFC with a 4-1-0 record. All four of her wins have come by knockout, including her last meeting against Britain Hart in April of 2019 via doctor stoppage. Hart fell to 0-2 with the BKFC after that loss before going on to win each of her next four fights with the promotion. This match should be more competitive than the last one was, though we still think Ferea will eventually earn the same result.
Fight fans in attendance in Florida and those watching around the country will have a card of 11 bare-knuckle fights to enjoy. Here are the betting odds on the rest of the card leading up to the final four fights
