The T20 Big Bash League continues on Wednesday night as the Melbourne Stars look to get their first points of the tournament when they host the Perth Scorchers at the MCG.
Things couldn’t have gone much worse for the Stars when they took on the Brisbane Heat in the tournament opener last week, as they went down by 103 runs and lost superstar captain Glenn Maxwell to an arm injury. However, the Stars are set to regain all-rounder Beau Webster after he played for the Prime Minister’s XI last week, while Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf is a chance to play after resolving his selection issues with the national board.
The Scorchers also had their fair share of drama in their opening match, as it was abandoned due to dangerous conditions after just seven overs. As a result, we were unable to see much of the side, so expect limited changes for this clash. Mitch Marsh and Lance Morris are both unavailable due to their selection in the Australian Test squad, while Ashton Agar is still working his way back from injury.
As the defending champions, the Scorchers will be full of confidence as they face the struggling Stars. Having won their past five matches against the Melbourne side, the Scorchers once again come in as clear favourites. Perth boast too much class with both bat and ball, so back them to win this at -200 with Bovada.
With the loss of Glenn Maxwell, a lot of the Stars’ expectations with the bat will now fall on their other Australian international all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis. Set to be promoted up the order, he matches up well with the Scorchers’ pace attack. If the Stars are any chance of an upset, it will be Stoinis as the top runscorer at +350 with T20 betting sites.
Jhye Richardson is one of the most dangerous bowlers in the BBL. A challenge to get away, the West Australian quick keeps batters quiet while also possessing express pace. Expected to open the bowling and feature at the death, Richardson looks a very good chance to finish as the Scorchers’ top wicket-taker at +260 with top cricket bookmakers.
