Energetik-BGU Minsk will look to reclaim the outright lead in the title race when they take on mid-table Gorodeya this Thursday in the Belarusian Premier League.
Vladimir Belyavskiy’s side started the season with three consecutive victories, but their winning streak came to an end over the Easter weekend as they suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino.

Only one goal’s difference now separates those two sides at the top of the BPL table, while the next four teams are two points further back, so Energetik-BGU could fall a few rungs on the ladder if they do not win their home fixture this week.
Gorodeya opened the 2020 Belarusian Premier League season with a pair of disappointing losses, but back-to-back triumphs over Belshina Bobruisk and Shakhtyor Soligorsk have steadied the ship.
While Oleg Radushko’s men are game shy of Energetik-BGU in the standings, they are historically the stronger of the two sides and may fancy their chances of springing an upset in the capital.
Energetik-BGU Minsk started the week at around +110 for the win, but online bookmakers have brought them in as short as -161.29 over the last few days. Meanwhile, Gorodeya’s price has blown out from +180 to +350 and could keep climbing.
Jasur Yakhshiboev has made an immediate impact in Belarus, contributing three of Energetik-BGU’s six goals this season. Two of those came on debut in a 3-1 win over the league’s powerhouse team, BATE Borisov. The 22-year-old Uzbek midfielder seems to enjoy playing at RCOR-BGU Stadium and should find a few opportunities to increase his tally on Thursday evening.
Energetik-BGU failed to trouble the scorers in their defeat to Torpedo – the first time that has happened this season. They have shown some quality in attack so far, but can they keep it going?
Gorodeya have scored only two goals in four outings this campaign, so it is clear where they need to improve. While the Haradzeya club have kept two clean sheets in a row, those came against winless Belshina and 14th-placed Dinamo Minsk.
Only one goal separated these sides over two meetings last season, with Gorodeya clinching a 1-0 home win and forcing a 0-0 draw in the capital. However, Energetik-BGU look a lively team on their own turf this term and should have enough firepower to clinch the win.
