England vs Denmark betting preview
Quarter-final victories do not come anymore commanding than the 4-0 demolition job that England did on Ukraine in Rome. It was the Harry Kane show in the capital of Italy as England’s captain found the back of the net on two occasions (4’, 50’) to help seal their spot in the last four. England managed to put three goals on Ukraine in the opening 20 minutes of the second half, with Harry Maguire (46’) and Jordan Henderson (63’) finding the back of the net from set pieces either side of Kane’s second goal.
With a full squad to choose from, it would be surprising to see Gareth Southgate change the starting line-up for the Denmark clash. Jadon Sancho was handed a first start of Euro 2020 and showed glimpses of his talent, whilst Luke Shaw was superb with two assists in the win against Ukraine. With Henderson edging closer to full fitness, Southgate has to decide whether he brings the Liverpool captain into the starting line-up or sticks with the less experienced duo of Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips in the middle.
Denmark look like a similar opponent as Croatia did to England in the 2018 World Cup semi finals, and that alone will give Three Lions fans something to think about. The Danes blitzed the Czech Republic in the quarter finals to take a 2-0 lead at half-time, and they survived an early onslaught after the break to hold on for a 2-1 win. Kasper Dolberg continued his strong form with another goal (42’) and could be the biggest threat to Jordan Pickford’s goal on Wednesday night.
Despite not having Christian Eriksen at their disposal, the Danish midfield consisting of Thomas Delaney, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joakim Maehle and Jens Stryger Larsen are sure to give their forwards a chance to find the back of the net; it is just whether the Danish strikers can take that opportunity. With an astute defence at their disposal, Denmark should prove a harder task than what Ukraine were to England in the quarters.
England vs Denmark predictions & best bets
Match handicap: England (-1.0)
England are seemingly the team to beat at Euro 2020, and it is no surprise to see them as -142.86 favourites to take out the tournament. With Denmark the last hurdle between them and a spot in the Euro 2020 final, we expect the 4-0 win against Ukraine to give the Three Lions another confidence boost. With Harry Kane now finding his best form and an in-form Raheem Sterling alongside him, the Denmark back three will have plenty of work to do on Wednesday night trying to nullify this rampaging Three Lions outfit.
In two knockout matches, Luke Shaw has three assists including two in the quarter final against Ukraine. He has been dubbed by many as the best left-back at the tournament, and on recent form it is hard to argue against that claim. He has 10 assists to his name for club and country throughout this football season, and we expect the Manchester United star will be crucial in helping England progress to the decider.
