Brandon Moreno and Kai Kara-France will meet in the co-main event of UFC 277 this Saturday with the interim UFC Flyweight Championship on the line. Here’s a betting preview for this flyweight bout that will lead into the night’s main event of Julianna Pena vs Amanda Nunes.
Brandon Moreno record & results
Brandon Moreno (19-6-2) had a 5-0-2 unbeaten streak snapped at UFC 270 in January with a decision loss to Deiveson Figueiredo. Moreno and Figueiredo have clashed for the UFC Flyweight Championship three straight times and split those fights 1-1-1, which set the stage for a rare quadrilogy between the two fighters. But with Figueiredo sidelined due to an injury, Moreno will instead face Kai Kara-France at UFC 277, with the winner going on to face Figueiredo for the title when he is ready to fight again.
Kai Kara-France record & results
Kara-France (24-9-0) had an eight-fight winning streak snapped by Moreno when the two last met at UFC 245 in December of 2019. The flyweight has gone 4-1-0 since that loss including a current winning streak of three straight fights over Rogeiro Bontorin, Cody Garbrandt and Askar Askarov. Each of those last two wins over Garbrandt and Askarov were upsets, and another upset here would put Kara-France in position to fight Figueiredo for the undisputed flyweight championship.
Moreno vs Kara-France UFC 277 betting predictions
This won’t be an easy fight for Moreno. Kara-France has improved a lot since they last met, as indicated by his impressive win over Askarov handing the formerly undefeated flyweight his first loss. It’s also worth noting that Moreno hasn’t had a competitive fight against anyone besides Deiveson Figueiredo since November of 2020; feeling out a different opponent in the octagon could come with its challenges.
On the other hand, Kara-France has no experience in championship rounds as this will be his first career five-round fight. And Moreno is as tough as they come with all six of his career losses having come by decision, so a victory by stoppage is an unlikely outcome for Kara-France. We lean towards Moreno getting the job done, but the betting odds make this one tricky to bet on as Kara-France does look enticing as a +180 underdog with most betting sites.
In the end, though, we have to lean on Moreno’s experience, reach advantage and toughness to lead him to a win. This is the result that the UFC will be rooting for too as it would set up a much-anticipated fourth fight between Moreno and Figueiredo, perhaps deciding this rivalry once and for all.
