Tom Brady will go down in history as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Patrick Mahomes appears to be Brady’s heir apparent as the best signal caller in the NFL today. These two former Super Bowl MVPs clash in what should be a thrilling title fight this Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Tampa, Florida.

In the week leading up to the AFC Championship Game, there were concerns about whether or not Mahomes would play after he was knocked out of Kansas City’s previous game against the Cleveland Browns with a concussion. The 25-year-old QB did end up playing and showed no ill effects of the previous week’s injury, going 29/38 for 325 passing yards and three touchdowns in the Chiefs’ 38-24 win over the Buffalo Bills. With the win, Mahomes moved to 24-1 over his last 25 starts.

Tom Brady had 280 passing yards and three passing touchdowns in the NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers, but it was far from a perfect game as the veteran quarterback completed only 55.6% of his passes and threw three interceptions. In the end, however, it was enough to get the job done as the Buccaneers punched their ticket to the Super Bowl with a 31-26 win. Tampa Bay is now 7-0 straight up and 5-2 against the spread over its last seven games, with back-to-back upsets as 2.5-point underdogs against the New Orleans Saints and as 3-point underdogs against the Packers.

There are plenty of reasons to like Tampa Bay in this spot. The Buccaneers are playing great. They are absolutely stacked on offense with Leonard Fournette in the backfield and weapons like Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, Cameron Brate, and Antonio Brown at Brady’s disposal. This is a squad that finished the regular season ranked third in scoring offense (averaging 30.8 points per game) and eighth in scoring defense (allowing 22.2 points per game), both higher than the Chiefs. Brady is a four-time Super Bowl MVP and a six-time Super Bowl winner.
However, there is just something special about this Kansas City group. Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce are the perfect one-two punch as the amount of focus it takes to cover one of them makes it almost impossible to defend the other. Mahomes is a generational talent at quarterback and is firmly in his prime at just 25 years old. We knew the defending champions were the team to beat coming into the season and nothing has changed. Look for the Chiefs to get the job done.
