The Philadelphia Eagles head down to Georgia this weekend to take on the Atlanta Falcons in week two of the 2019 NFL regular season.
The Eagles started off slowly in their last game but came on big in the second half to beat the Washington Redskins 32-27. On the other side, the Falcons struggled in their season opener where they could get little going on offense in their 28-12 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
These teams met last season in Philadelphia, where the Eagles beat the Falcons 18-12.
In their win over the Redskins, the Eagles did not look good in the first half but outscored the Skins 25-7 in the second half. They had 436 yards of total offense with Carson Wentz passing for 313 yards and three TD, while DeSean Jackson caught two long, scoring passes and had 154 receiving yards. Jordan Howard and Darren Sproles combined for 91 rushing yards and each averaged at least 5.2 yards per carry.

The Eagles will want to avoid a bad start in this Sunday night game facing a Falcons team that is hungry to avoid going 0-2 on the young season. Atlanta’s defense played the pass well in their last game but gave up 172 rushing yards. They had more overall yards than the Vikings (345 to 269) but had three turnovers while not forcing any.
Matt Ryan passed for 304 yards with two TD, but he was also picked off twice and sacked four times. Austin Hooper led the team with 77 receiving yards and star WR Julio Jones only had 31 receiving yards on six receptions. The run game was bad for Atlanta and you know that is the case when the less than mobile Ryan is the second-leading rusher. Ito Smith led the team with 31 rushing yards and lead RB Devonta Freeman only had 19 yards on eight carries and lost a fumble.
The Eagles stuffed the run in the Washington win, only giving up 28 rushing yards, but they did give up 370 passing yards. However, most of those yards came in the first half and Philly will look to play defense in this game like they did in the second half of their last game.
The Falcons will have a tough hill to climb if they lose this game, as six of their next seven games, including their next three, come against teams that made the playoffs last season.

Man, do the Falcons need a win in this game. Too bad they will not get it facing an Eagles team that will play like they did in the second half of their last game. Wentz will have a big game and the Eagles will run the ball well, while Philly will play solid defense facing Matty Ice and company. The Eagles will not blow out the Falcons, but they will get the win and cover the short road spread.
