The San Antonio Spurs head to the Land of 10,000 Lakes to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first matchup between these teams in the 2019-20 NBA season.
The Spurs have won three in a row to get to the .500 mark, averaging 119 ppg in their last three games. They now sit ninth in the NBA West standings, one slot below their opponents this Wednesday.

The Timberwolves have also won three in a row. While their defense has not been good, they rank sixth in the NBA in points per game.
Last season the Spurs won all three games facing the Timberwolves. San Antonio have also covered the spread in four of their last five games against Minnesota.
All of the Spurs’ wins in their current three-game win streak were at home and all came facing teams that are under .500. They beat the New York Knicks 120-111 in their last game where they shot just over 50% from the floor and outscored NY by 10 points in the fourth quarter. They got the win despite being sloppy with the rock and committing 21 turnovers.
LaMarcus Aldridge was the high scorer for the Spurs in the New York win, going for 22 points on 8/15 shooting, while Bryn Forbes had 20 points. DeMar DeRozan leads San Antonio on the season with 19.4 ppg but had an off night against the Knicks, scoring 13 points on 3/10 shooting. He has struggled with his shot in the last two games, scoring only 25 points in total.
Typically, the Spurs are one of the best defensive teams in the NBA. This season, however, they only rank 20th in the league while giving up an average of 112.7 ppg.
The Timberwolves are coming off a shootout on the road where they beat the Brooklyn Nets 127-126 in overtime. They only shot 42.6% from the floor, allowing the Nets to shoot 47.5%, and they were fortunate that Brooklyn shot only 57.7% from the free-throw line.
Four of five starters for Minnesota and two reserves went for double figures in the win over the Nets. Karl-Anthony Towns had a monster game with 36 points and 14 rebounds, and on the season he is averaging 25.5 ppg and 12.1 rpg. Andrew Wiggins (25.5 ppg) went for 21 points after going for at least 30 points in three of his previous four games.
Trey Lyles leads the Spurs in rebounding, but the C is undersized at 6’9” and will need help in the paint against the 7’ Towns.
On the season the Timberwolves are 2-2 at home and the Spurs are 1-2 on the road.
Minnesota Timberwolves -2 at -111.11 with Bovada
Both teams come into this game on three-game winning streaks, but only one can extend that run to four. Spurs will have no answer for Towns in a high-scoring game where the Timberwolves will win and cover the spread in their own house.
