The battle for the top spot on the Serie A table continues this weekend as first-placed AC Milan hosts Atalanta and second-placed Inter Milan visits Cagliari. Here’s our top play in both of those games and one in Monday’s Juventus vs Lazio matchup in Serie A Matchweek 37.
AC Milan vs Atalanta
AC Milan’s march towards the 2021-22 Serie A championship continued on Sunday with a 3-1 road win over Hellas Verona. Milan (24-8-4) is unbeaten since January 17 with a 9-5-0 record over its last 14 matches that includes a current winning streak of four straight games. Over the last nine games, Milan has outscored its opponents 11-2.
Atalanta (16-11-9) defeated Spezia 3-1 on the road last weekend to improve to 2-2-0 over its last four games after having gone just 2-2-6 over its previous 10 matches. This won’t be an easy game for Milan by any means given Atalanta’s current form, but the league leaders have been so good over the last few months that it’s tough to pass on them as such small favorites at home.
Cagliari vs Inter Milan
Inter Milan (23-9-4) picked up a 4-2 win at home over Empoli to move to 6-0-1 over their last seven games. The one loss over that stretch came on the road against Bologna, and that loss is the reason Internazionale currently sits two points behind AC Milan on the Serie A table with only two games left in the regular season. Cagliari (6-11-19) meanwhile is 1-1-7 over its last nine games after playing to a 1-1 draw on the road against Salernitana last Sunday.

This is obviously a must-win game for Inter Milan, and one the club will very likely win. But will it be by two goals? Inter has won only one of its last eight road matches by two or more goals, and Cagliari’s last three home losses have been by only one goal, including losses to top-tier teams in AC Milan and Juventus. Look for Internazionale to win by one goal and for Cagliari to cover the spread as 1.5-goal underdogs.
Juventus vs Lazio
Juventus (20-9-7) suffered a disappointing 2-1 road loss at the hand of Genoa last Friday, falling to 3-1-2 over its last six games since going unbeaten with an 11-5-0 run before the beginning of April. Lazio (18-8-10) is 4-1-1 over its last six games after beating Sampdoria 2-0 at home last week. The club’s only loss over this six game stretch came against AC Milan.
Lazio has been playing well on the road of late with a 5-1-1 record in its last seven matches at home. Juventus, meanwhile, seems to have lost a little steam in recent weeks after its strong push through the first three months of 2022. A Juventus win or a draw are both obviously realistic outcomes, but in what should be a pretty competitive game between two top-five clubs, we’ll take a stab on Lazio as a live underdog in this spot.
