The first of three One Day Internationals between Sri Lanka and India is set to be held at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Sunday afternoon. Betting Planet’s cricket expert presents his best bets and match analysis for the first ODI clash between these two great cricketing nations since the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Sri Lanka return home following a less than ideal tour of England last month but should enjoy getting back to their home conditions against an undermanned Indian line up. Unfortunately for Sri Lanka they will be without four of their first-choice batters in Danushka Gunathlaka, Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella and Kusal Perara who are set to miss due to injury or suspension.
The Lankans are set to welcome back pace duo Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kamara from injury which will be an added boost to their chances of overcoming a poor record in ODI cricket this year. Sri Lanka have lost all three of their ODI series this year, losing 3-0 to the West Indies, 2-1 to Bangladesh and then 2-0 to England in their recent tour. With just one win from eight completed matches, it looks to be an uphill battle come Sunday afternoon.

Despite a majority of their first choice ODI players in England preparing for a test series next month, this ODI series presents plenty of opportunities for some of India’s best up-and-coming talent as well as several players looking to force their way back into India’s first choice line up. Shikhar Dhawan will lead this Indian line-up throughout the white ball tour of India and will be crucial to their successes from the top of the order.
With most of India’s first choice bowling attack in India, this bowling line up is nothing to turn an eye at, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in the touring squad with dynamic all-rounder Hardik Pandya also set to play a crucial role in the ODI’s with both bat and ball. With scores of 98 and 67 in that series, Shikhar Dhawan will be looking to build on that recent form in Sri Lanka. He has a high score of 132* in Sri Lanka in ODI’s and has flourished in the country in all the forms of the game. With plenty to offer going forward, Dhawan will be looking to lead from the front in the first ODI.
It was not too long ago that Bhuvneshwar Kumar was regarded as one of the best bowlers in ODI cricket in the world. Having put his injury troubles behind him, Bhuvi will be looking for a big series to help him catapult back into India’s best bowling attack. The last series Bhuvneshwar Kumar played an ODI series in Sri Lanka he claimed 5/42 in a fine display of swing bowling claiming two of the five wickets in the opening powerplay. If Bhuvi brings his best form, he could wreak havoc against an under-performing Sri Lanka side.
