Pakistani police arrested a number of suspected bookmakers last Friday in Lahore for operating a betting syndicate and gambling on this season’s Indian Premier League games.
Local news sources say two suspected gambling syndicates were apprehended within different locations of the provincial capital.
A spokesperson for the police said one of the gambling syndicates was situated within the neighborhood of Sabzazar. In the course of the raid, officers arrested Zahid, (aka Goga Butt) who has been previously arrested for similar offenses.
Goga Butt and his accomplices have been previously charged with 20 cases of betting in different locations across India, the police authorities disclosed.
The previous raid was carried out at Rehri Wala Chowk area of Ichhra the location where Goga Butt and friends were arrested.
Police reported to have recovered the sum of Rs255, 000, mobile phones, laptops, LED TVs, digital cable boxes, wireless sets, a pistol, a rifle and 60 rounds of ammunition from the suspects.
It is important to state here that many other IPL gambling syndicates have been raided throughout India in the past couple of weeks since the commencement of the current league season.
Recently, Indian press has reported that five individuals were detained for purportedly operating a betting syndicate by gambling on IPL games in New Delhi.
