The Washington Commanders will host the Chicago Bears in the NFL’s Week 5 edition of Thursday Night Football. Despite the fact that neither team is particularly strong, the over/under is set at 44, so NFL fans should at least enjoy watching subpar offenses play subpar defenses. Here are our picks for Thursday Night Football.
The 0-4 Chicago Bears will try for their first win this Thursday, and although they have been awful, they should be able to keep this game close. Washington is a solid team and sits at 2-2, but they have not been able to win games comfortably. In their two wins, they have only outscored their opponents by six points. The Commanders should win this game, but Thursdays are always unpredictable, and this is too many points to give the Bears.
Justin Fields, the Chicago Bears QB, has yet to fully unleash his scrambling ability, but he should be running a lot in this game. The Commanders have a great defensive line that should force Fields to move around a lot, and Fields is at his best when he is improvising. Fields has only cleared this number once this season, but last year, he cleared it in 10 of his last 12 games.
Chicago has given up the fourth-most passing yards across the entire NFL and has shown no signs of improvement through four weeks. They cannot stop anyone, and that should continue this week. Terry McLaurin is the Commanders’ best pass-catching option, and while he has only cleared this number once through four weeks, he hasn’t played the Bears yet. McLaurin has the talent to hit this over on one play, and he should be very active in this Thursday night clash.
The Commanders, like the Bears, have struggled to stop passing offenses all season long, and while that’s not the Bears’ strength, they showed they can beat up on bad defenses last week when Fields threw for four touchdowns. His top target, D.J. Moore, ended up with one of those scores and topped 130 receiving yards. We expect another big game from Moore, and we like his odds with the top sportsbooks to grab his third touchdown of the season.
